Well done to Sixteen South whose latest series Lily’s Driftwood Bay ( 52 x 7 ) has just launched on Nick Jnr in the UK. Ever since Lily wowed Cartoon Forum a couple of years back, it’s been one of the most anticipated animated shows, with its use of genuine sea-side materials. So far distributors, The Jim Henson Company, have lined up international sales to RTE in Ireland, MTV and YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden and Hop in Israel. The music by Score Draw Music sets out to capture the spirit of traditional British folk – everyone from Sandy Denny, right up to contemporary acts like The Unthanks or Laura Marling. This beautiful score uses glockenspiel, banjo, guitar and mandolin as the main instruments. “We wanted to make music for every generation that might watch the show – not just children”, Score Draw Music’s Mark Gordon says. “We’re not writing down to the audience but “writing up” as all the best kids music should be.” Score Draw Music and Belfast-based Sixteen South have ambitious plans for the music, with live performances at open air screenings of the series.
