Nadiya is returning to our screens in new Hungry Gap show Nadiya’s Family Favourites. With music by Accorder composer Matt Slater, the series starts 16th July at 8pm, on BBC Two.
Whether preparing food on a busy school night, or catering for a lazy social Sunday, the series will open the lid on the kinds of food Nadiya prepares for her family and friends, demonstrating how to create the perfect dishes to compliment these shared experiences.
Nadiya says: “I’m delighted to be able to share some of my family’s favourite recipes that I’ve put together to suit different times and situations, from Wind Down Weekends to Family Occasions and the comings and goings of a hectic family life.” Bringing her trademark warm and inclusive style to the show, each episode sees Nadiya prepare four recipes. Her creations across the series include ‘Spatchcock Spicy Chicken with Ghee Potatoes’, and ‘Baked Pear and Marzipan Crumble’.
We caught up with composer Matt Slater about the writing process for the series:
“Working on now our 5th series together, Will Knott and I have developed a good understanding of how each other works, making the compositional process easy, clear and fun. Will suggested that we go for something a little different with Nadiya, so we looked at various styles that embodied the fun, family and the warm nature of the show, yet still had energy and sounded current. Very quickly we honed in on a Motown, brass, pop and funk vibe. Not the easiest of styles to write in, but I thought it would be challenging to attempt it. Thankfully, all went down well and we formed the sound for the series very quickly.”
“It’s lovely to work with a production company like Hungry Gap who place importance on the sound of a series rather than just a collection of disparate music cues. Part of the goal is to create something that gives the series it’s own sound and cohesion and that’s a treat to work with.”
Nadiya’s Family Favourites is a Hungry Gap Productions series for BBC Two, starting Monday 16th July at 8pm. The Exec Producer on the series is Pete Lawrence.
